Know The Basics Of Laminate Floor Before Choosing

red hr line

Laminate flooring has become very popular because of its flexibility and variety of designs. Installing a laminate floor is also a very easy task that can be done even by amateurs. Coupled with the fact that it is able to simulate the looks of the other costlier flooring options like marble, hardwood, ceramics etc.

increases its utility so that even people with a smaller budget are able to install a floor of their dreams.

But there are certain things which a person should be aware of before opting and installing a laminate floor. Some of these things include:

  • If a person lives in a climate-controlled environment at home, the laminated floor can be installed immediately, if required. But if the home environment follows long periods of extreme temperature, the laminate floor boards and tiles need to be given time to acclimatise with the same. This means that space needs to be made beforehand in a room to store the total bulk of laminate boards and tiles for quite some time. But having to manoeuvre around the home with stacks of laminated flooring stored can be of some hindrance and this should be kept in mind.

  • The whole room wherein the laminated floor is to be installed needs to be emptied out. This also includes the removal of all and any kind of furniture, electrical gadgets etc. from the room. Hence anything that sits on the floor and can hamper with the smooth installation of the laminated floor needs to be removed. This can create quite a hassle.

  • While the easiest part of lamination flooring is that it can be installed over any type of pre-existing flooring, the boards of the previous flooring need to be removed anyway so as to make room for the door and windows to function properly.

  • Molding and baseboard, if any, needs to be removed properly before the start of the laminate flooring. This can be quite a tricky process since the chance of a patch being left behind is pretty high. But it should be done with as much precision and accuracy as possible.

  • Following DIY instructions for installing the laminate boards and planks are easy provided one has the right tools to deal with any situation. The easiest and safest place to get them is the dealer selling laminate floorboards. In fact there would be a high probability of these dealers having an installation kit ready to be bought when a person opts for laminate floors.

  • Cutting and trimming the laminate boards and planks can be quite a noisy, disruptive and messy affair. Care must be taken to ensure these are done outside the homes to avoid having to clean up thoroughly afterwards.

  • Rubber pads too need to be installed under the legs of all furniture that needs to be put back into the room with the installed laminate floors so as to minimise direct contact with the floor and also prevent the floor from dents and scratches.

Even after the installation of the laminate boards is done, it needs to be left undisturbed for a few days for the adhesives to dry up and only then used. Hence even though the installation of the laminate floor is a relatively inexpensive affair, there are certain small hassles involved which need to be given some consideration.
