Today there is a huge demand for breakfast and dining bars etc. But these bars also need stools to accompany them. There are several factors that need to be taken into consideration since they play an important role in its selection like:
- Height of the bar or counter: The height of the table or the counter needs to be accurately measured. After deducting a gap of around 9inch to 13inch which needs to be present between the counter and the seat for a comfortable sitting, any one from the following types of stools can be selected:
- Chair stools which are generally of a height of 18inches when measured from the floor to the seat of the stool,
- Counter stools which measure about 24inches to 26inches from the floor to the seat and
- Bar stools which are generally 28inches to 30inches high from the floor to the seat.
- Number of stools required:This depends on the space available for putting in the stools around the bar or counter. There has to be ample space between two stools so that people are able to sit, eat and drink, socialise with comfort and ease. The gaps that need to be left between stools depend on the following thumb rules:
- A stool of 16inches to 18inches width needs around 21inches to 22inches of space,
- One with a width of 19inch to 22inch needs 24inch to 25inch of space and
- Any stool which swivels with or without arms will need more space than ordinarily required.
- Stool style:This is perhaps the most important point since it deals with both the comfort and aesthetics of the stool to be purchased. Some leading questions which will help a person finalise on the stool style are:
- Purpose, whether the stool is being purchased to make a style statement or for discreet seating,
- Design, whether the colour, texture and design of the stool be in sync with the surrounding décor to make for a graceful appearance or should it be such that it makes a dramatic impact,
- Space, wherein the style of the stool that is chosen will ultimately fit into the space available around the counter or the bar.
- Height of the bar or counter: The height of the table or the counter needs to be accurately measured. After deducting a gap of around 9inch to 13inch which needs to be present between the counter and the seat for a comfortable sitting, any one from the following types of stools can be selected:
Backless stools are usually discreet in looks and are a more practical choice since they can be easily stored when not in use. But for people who generally entertain a lot, it is best to opt for a more lounge-worthy design like a stool with deep seating and broad backs.
Of course the stool style also depends on its use. Hence if the stools are to be used for eating food etc., it is best to opt for materials which are low-maintenance like leather, metal or even wood.
Today stool styles too have undergone a change. Hence it is possible to get the perfect style of stools to compliment the décor of the room irrespective of whether it is traditional, rustic, contemporary etc. The trick is to be rigid about the practical fundamentals but keep an open mind where the style is concerned. This makes for an easy stool shopping experience.
