Laminate flooring is one of the most popular and commonly installed floorings today. It is loved for its wide variety, price, durability, and easy maintenance. If you have laminate flooring installed in your home, you would know about the long list of benefits it offers. However, despite its durability and easy maintenance, laminate flooring can lose its freshness and shine over time. This can be due to various reasons including built-up dirt, irregular cleaning, or excessive use of soap-based detergents. When laminate floors become dull, they start looking old and worn out and make your home interior look dull too. When this happens, most of the people get their floors replaced. Well, this is not really necessary; you can renew your dull laminate floors and bring their shine back by following a few cleaning tips.
One common reason behind dullness of laminate floors is improper and irregular cleaning. It is because most of the people don’t know what types mops to use, which detergents work on laminate floors and which do not, and how these floors have to be maintained. So, to help you out, we’ve listed down a few cleaning tips here that will help you get your shiny laminate flooring back.
How to clean your laminate floors to restore their shine?
Step 1:
First of all, you need to get all the below mentioned cleaning equipment from the store before you start with the cleaning process.
- Mop
- Dustpan
- Broom
- Bucket
- White vinegar (distilled)
- Piece of cloth
- Laminate flooring polish
- Cloth mop (lint-free)
- Microfiber towel
Step 2:
The second step is to thoroughly sweeping the floor, and removing all dust, crumbs, stains, and other dirt. Make sure you clean the corners and underneath furniture as most of the time dust settles in those areas of the floor. You can use a broom or mop, and dustpan for this purpose (if you have a vacuum with hard-floor setting, it can also do this job).
Step 3:
Take a bucket and fill it with warm water. Then add one cup white vinegar in it. Clean your laminate flooring using this mixture with a soft mop. This mixture provides much better results than those detergents you find in the market. Although there are cleaners which are not soap-based, but they still fail to thoroughly clean laminate floors. So this old-fashioned cleaning mixture is the best way to get this job done.
Step 4:
Fill your basket again with plain, warm water and clean your floor again with it using a mop. This will remove the vinegar from your floor and make sure that no dust is left on it. Then take a dry, clean, lint-free piece of cloth and dry your floor by rubbing it on the flooring in a circular motion using your hand.
Step 5:
Take the bottle of floor polish and shake it gently. Then pour or spray some on the laminate floor. Start from one corner of your room. Use a microfiber towel or clean lint-free mop to spread the polish. You have to apply the polish very carefully in small sections going from one corner of the room to the other. Once the polish has been applied on the entire floor, let it dry according to the directions of the manufacturer. Then apply another layer of coating in the same way if necessary.
And you’re done! Your laminate floor is fresh and shiny again!
(Pro-tip: Precautions are always better so if you have new, shiny laminate flooring in your home, get a microfiber mop with washable fabric cover, and a low-moisture cleaning wand for its cleaning. These cleaning equipment will help you keep your floors fresh and shiny for a longer time.)
